Hempstead County Democratic Women’s Bean Supper

The 15th annual Hempstead County Democratic Women’s Bean Supper was held Thursday April 12th at the Fair Park Community Center.  A bi-partisan crowd turned out to enjoy a variety of homemade beans, cornbread, cracklin’ bread, and homemade desserts.  During the political speaking, the Democratic candidates spokes including Judge’s candidate Allen Flowers as well as current Democratic County officials Sheriff James Singleton, Treasurer Judy Flowers, and Assessor Kim Smith.  A number of Republicans also spoke including Incumbent Hempstead County Judge Haskell Morse, Judge’s candidate Jerry Crane, Incumber County Clerk Karen Smith, Clerk candidate Eva Morehead, and JP candidate Steve Atchley.  The crowd also welcomed 4th District Congressional Candidate and Democrat Hayden Shamel of Hot Springs.  Shamel is no stranger to Hope having taught for several years at UAHT when she lived in Texarkana.  Everyone enjoyed the beans, the speeches were brief and informative, and several recipes were exchanged
