PRESCOTT – Flag retirement ceremonies were held at Cummins Field Wednesday afternoon.

About 30 flags were burned during the event, which included Boy Scouts, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Dennis Pruitt, history teacher with the Prescott School District.

Those attending were told what the colors meant, how red initially represented American dependence on England, and white showed the separation of the two nations. This was the second year for flags to be retired at PHS. The flags were burned in a drum filled with wood and diesel fuel until they were ash. The ashes were then collected and buried.
