Ruth Godwin Perry

Ruth Godwin Perry, 86, of Batesville, Ark., died on May 22, 2018.

 

A business owner, teacher and third-generation cattle rancher in Florida and Arkansas, Mrs. Perry was born on October 8, 1931, in St. Cloud, Fla., to the late Leon Godwin and Millie Partin Godwin. She was graduated from St. Cloud High School where she played basketball and served as a cheerleader, then attended Stetson University in Deland, Fla.

 

In 1949 Mrs. Perry married the late William E. Perry, who at the time of their union was the head football coach at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla.

 

A champion rodeo quadrille leader and cutting horse rider in her youth, Mrs. Perry as an adult worked as a school teacher and for 25 years owned and operated The Fashion Shop women’s apparel store in Prescott, Ark. She was a devout Christian.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Tanya Perry Plunkett of Little Rock, Ark., and Faye Perry Purtle of Batesville; two grandchildren, Dixie Lee Coe of Batesville, and John David Coe of Wrightsville, Ark.; two great grandchildren, Chloe Coe of Batesville and Gracie Coe of Maumelle, Ark., and a sister, Katherine Godwin Koger of Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Bonnie Godwin Sams of Prescott, and a brother, Robert Leon Godwin of Prescott.

 

There will be a private interment service in Prescott by Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home, www.brazzelfuneralhomes.com. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
