Hempstead County Election Commission Meets On City Election

The Hempstead County Election Commission held a hearing Monday July 16th at the Hempstead County Courthouse. Chairman Cindy Newsom noted there were 24 provisional ballots in early and absentee from last Tuesday’s city election. Newsom noted there were also some provisional ballots on election day. There were also three challenged ballots and one challenge was revoked. The two challenged ballots were counted according to Newsom. Blake Montgomery asked whose votes were not counted. Newsom named four people. These people were either not registered or resided outside the city. There is an outstanding ballot of an overseas civilian. Newsom said the final vote was 391 against and 380 for change. The votes are to be certified o Friday July 20th. The hearing then adjourned.
