The Hempstead County Quorum Court met Thursday July 26th for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting got underway with a resolution authorizing Circuit Clerk Gail Wolfenbarger to apply for a grant from the Circuit Clerk’s Association.
Ed Darling gave a report on the meeting of the courthouse architecture committee. He noted they hope to have the proposals scored by Monday. Darling said they hope to narrow the choice down to two and to get further proposals from the two by late August.
Judge Haskell Morse noted he had been asked to tell the quorum court there is a meeting at the White House August 20th and 21st and the JP’s are invited.
Treasurer Judy Flowers noted that some entity has been applying for “electric powerization sales tax rebate” each month for the past 13 months. The amount the unknown entity is being rebated is $78,600 per month or over $900,000 a yeat. Flowers said they don’t know what industry is benefitting from the tax rebate. Discussion ensued but no action was taken. The meeting then adjourned.
