HOPE- Bruce Westerman visit her yesterday August 27 members of a community along with Hempstead County Judge Haskell Morse, Catherine Cook, and those who are in the running for an elected office were present at the event. Vice Chancellor of UAHT Brian Berry gave a brief introduction before Westerman took to the podium. Westerman informed us of everything that is currently being worked on in D.C. he started off with the economy and made the comment “the economy is doing fantastic” with some of the best economic numbers seen in a while and low unemployment rates. With the lower unemployment rates it has become a struggle for employers to hire due to those seeking jobs are unable to pass a drug test. Discussion about tariffs and a trade deficit agreement with Mexico that are hoping to happen soon were also mentioned, they are hoping that Canada will soon follow Mexico with this agreement. The Chinese are also wanting to meet to discuss about resolving trade issues. There is still a lot of work to be done with the healthcare and immigration but he hopes that they work on it while they are out for recess. Before taking questions he ended with drug trafficking and human trafficking stating that they had passed a law that shut down an internet website called back page which was used for prostitution and sexual trafficking this law took place and the website was seized in April of 2018.
