PRESCOTT – From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. area residents can get vaccinated for the flu at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The Nevada County Health Unit staff, along with volunteers, will be giving flu shots at no cost. However, those with insurance are asked to bring their insurance cards. In addition, people are encouraged to wear short sleeved shirts or tops with loose sleeves as the vaccinations are given in the upper arm.

All vaccines will be from dead viruses, which cannot give anyone the flu. But, it takes about two weeks after getting vaccinated for the body to build up antibodies for the flu, so anyone who gets the flu during this period was most likely exposed to it before getting the shot. This year’s vaccine will again be a quadravailant, meaning it contains strains of four different types of influenza.

Weather permitting, the clinic will be a drive through. However, in the event of inclement weather, vaccines will be administered inside the Potlatch Building.
