School flu clinic held at Nevada

ROSSTON – Students, faculty and staff in the Nevada School District lined up bright and early Tuesday morning to get their flu shots.

The Nevada and Hempstead County Health Units worked together, supervising student nurses in administering the vaccines. This year’s vaccines are once again quadravailant, meaning they have strains of four types of flu virus. All vaccine is made from dead flu viruses and cannot cause the flu. It takes about two weeks for a person to develop antibodies to fight the flu from the shots. Anyone getting the flu during this period was most likely exposed to it before getting vaccinated.
