Vanwinkle charged with several crimes

HOPE – On Oct. 19, at approximately 9:15 p.m. deputies arrested Patrick Vanwinkle, 29, of Nashville, at the southwest corner of the cemetery at the intersection of Hempstead 54 and 52. Vanwinkle was detained for suspicion of battery 2nd on his pregnant girlfriend.
 
When Deputy Dunham placed Vanwinkle in the back of the patrol unit and headed back to the residence of the alleged crime at 143 Hempstead 54. Vanwinkle reportedly spit through the wire mesh cage in the patrol unit and it hit Dunham on the right ear and right side of neck neck.
 
While in route to the Hempstead County Detention Center Vanwinkle became more and more agitated and  verbally threatened Deputy Dunham and his family stating he was going to send him and his family to hell. Vanwinkle said several times that he would remember the0 deputy’s name and would be at his house once he was not incarcerated.
 
Vanwinkle also said once he took the handcuffs off of him at the jail that he was going to hit him in the face, following that up by saying the deputy might die sooner than he thinks.
 
Upon arriving at the Hempstead County Detention Center Vanwinkle calmed down and there was no further incident. He was charged with domestic battery 2nd, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief 2nd, and terroristic threatening. He is awaiting a first court appearance.
