UAHT Welding Students Show Off Bicentennial Time Capsule
Welding students at UAHT on Thursday unveiled the Hempstead County Bicentennial Time Capsule they have constructed. Designer Richard Read was on hand along with UAHT’s Charlie Scoggins. Read says the capsule is 37 inches tall and weighs about 400 pounds empty. It is made of quarter inch stainless steel and the lid will be welded in place when it is sealed. People who would like to write a “letter to the future” can find the forms at hempstead200.com or at the Chamber office. The time capsule will be buried at the new courthouse December 15th in a special concrete vault. Plans are to open it in 2068.
