BLEVINS – Veteran’s Day came early at the Blevins School District Friday.

Veterans were invited to the school’s agriculture shop for a meal of smoked chicken as a way for the district to thank them for their services. Enough chicken was cooked for roughly 100 people, and what wasn’t eaten at lunch went to the hospitality room for Friday night’s basketball game. Students wearing red “ambassador” shirts served the meal, and veterans were interviewed by a member of the school’s yearbook staff.

In addition, fifth grade students performed a military medley of the theme songs for all branches of the Armed Forces. Sixth grade students were assigned to write letters thanking veterans for their service, with the top three students reading their aloud to the veterans.

This is the third year the district has provided such an event for veterans.
