The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day program was held Monday January 21st at the Bethel A.M.E. Church on Laurel Street in Hope. The program was emceed by Hazel Simpson with a welcome from Shirley Lindsey. Jessie Henry of the Charity Baptist Church in Fulton voiced the opening prayer. A community choir sang several selections that were well-appreciated by the audience including “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. Musical accompaniment was provided Gwen Muldrow. Eleven year old Arrington Turner provided a speech called “We Are On the Move”. Desha Turner provided an excerpt of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. Ten year old Jaydon Sanders provided those attending with the order of service and song lyric sheets.
The program was a great time of inspirational music and words. It was a fitting tribute on the occasion of a great American’s 90th birthday.
