PAX Hosts Chamber Coffee

The Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce held a community coffee at the chamber office on February 6. The coffee was hosted by, Program of Academic Exchange (PAX). The non profit program was created in 1990

Arnetta Bradford is the local representative for our area and brought along the students that she has placed with families within our community. The students that were present were from China, Brazil, Germany, and Spain.

They will be hosting a sip and taste on March 14 from 5:00-7-00 in downtown Hope where each student will be inside a different store with meals they have prepared from their own country. They will also have raffle tickets for $5 for a basket worth $350 that has a little something from each of the students country.

The organization was created to help young people from around the world and their host families to learn each other’s way of living such as, beliefs, customs, and language.

Families are encouraged to apply to be a host family, host families are voluntary but are entitled to a tax deduction of each month that they host. All PAX students have full coverage insurance and the host family has no liability to the students health related expenses. The students will have their own spending money, but the family is responsible for providing three meals a day to the student.

For those interested in becoming a host family or a representative please visit their website at pax.org for more information.
