Tax revenue up in 2018

PRESCOTT – Tax collection in 2018 was up in Prescott and Nevada County.

Mary Godwin, director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office (EDO), presented the figures to the Nevada County Quorum Court at its February meeting Monday.

In 2017, the city collected $709,026.49. This increased to $723,194.85 by the end of 2018. The county collected $1,774,634.90 in 2017 and $1,850,905.52 last year. Overall in 2017, taxes collected in Prescott and Nevada County totaled $2,483,661.39, with this going up to $2,574,100.37 by the end of 2018.

The state has a 6.5 percent sales tax, while there’s a 2 percent tax in the county and a 1 percent tax in Prescott for a total of 9.5 percent overall.

In 2017, the city averaged collecting $59,085.54 per month, and saw this rise to $60,266.24 in 2018. For the county, the 2017 monthly figures were $206,971.78, with the 2018 numbers showing $214,508.36.

The total tax collected in January 2019 was $125,415.24.
