Volunteers work to clean up Prescott
PRESCOTT – It was a trashy situation Wednesday.
Groups gathered at Sterling Square before 8 a.m., collecting their gear with plans to clean Prescott up, one piece of trash at a time. The volunteers were given trash bags, a safety vest, gloves, a t-shirt and a grabber so they wouldn’t have to bend and pick up the trash.
Once armed, the volunteers spread out, some heading to the area beside Fred’s, another group tackled Ron Harrod Blvd., while the area around the Prescott City Park was the target for another. Two volunteers were cleaning up the Nevada County Fairgrounds by themselves, while two others worked the tracks on East First Street South.
This was all part of the Great Arkansas Cleanup Campaign. The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the effort, with Firestone pledging to provide scales so the trash could be weighed at the end of the event.
Crews from the city’s Sanitation Department went around picking up bulk items across town.
