Wolf thinclads take state

PRESCOTT – On April 30th the Prescott Curley Wolves went to Green Forest and won the Class 3A State Track and Field Championship for the third year in a row. 

The championship gave Prescott four out of the last five state titles and 11 total state track and field championships.  The Curley Wolves scored 78.5 points, runner-up Cave City scored 62 points, third place Genoa scored 46 points, Bald Knob was fourth with 35 points, and Fountain Lake rounded out the top five with 34 points.

Adrian Block and Ryan Johnson led the way for the Curley Wolves.  Block finished with 30 points and Johnson finished with 29.5 points.  Block won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 39.91, finished second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30, finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 43-5, tied for fourth in the high jump with a jump of 6-0, and anchored the 4×400 meter relay which finished in third place.  Johnson won the triple jump with a jump of 45-11.5 which missed the 3A state record by half an inch, finished second in the long jump with a jump of 21-5, finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.18, anchored the second place 4×100 meter relay team and ran the first leg of the 4×400 meter relay team which finished third. Johnson also made the finals in the 200-meter dash by winning his heat with a 23.51 in the prelims.  He did not run in the finals to rest for the 4×400 meter relay.  Freshman Jason Patrick Jr. scored 5 points by finishing fourth in the discus throw with a throw of 125-9, Tywan Thompson scored 4.5 points by finishing sixth in the pole vault with a vault of 11-6, Trey Rucker scored 3.5 points by finishing seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 42-1.25 and jumped 19-3.75 in the long jump.  Derriun Thompson, Ty’Ron Gulley, and Jaylen Hopson all scored 2 points by finishing second in the 4×100 meter relay.  Kobe Gillard competed in the shot put with a throw of 39-1.25, and Justin Wilson was qualified for the discus throw but was unable to compete because of an injury.  The 4×800 meter relay team of Trey Rucker (2:11.40), Tyler Doucet (2:23.94), Tywan Thompson (2:13.40), and Lasse Tillwick (2:13.54) finished just out of the points in 9th place with a time of 9:02.61, the 4×100 meter relay team of Keonte Franklin, Jaylen Hopson, Derriun Thompson, and Ryan Johnson qualified for the finals in the prelims and in the finals Ty’Ron Gulley (13.44), Jaylen Hopson (9.08), Derriun Thompson (10.30), and Ryan Johnson (11.40) finished in second place with a time of 44.35.  The 4×400 team of Ryan Johnson (51.77), Tywan Thompson (54.43), Trey Rucker (54.14), and Adrian Block (54.48) finished in third place with a time of 3:35.04.  The Curley Wolves not only had to beat every 3A team in the state, but also had to survive a long day with five weather delays.  It was a great way to cap off an outstanding season for Prescott.

Before winning the third state title in a row the Curley Wolves hosted the 7-3A Senior High District Track Meet at Prescott.  The Curley Wolves were attempting to win their 13th straight district championship and with 236 points had no problem doing so.  Ashdown finished as runner-up with 112 points, followed by Genoa with 106 points, Centerpoint with 64 points, Smackover with 62, Bismarck 56, and Fouke with 15.  Ryan Johnson and Adrian Block led the way for the Curley Wolves.  Johnson scored 46.5 points and Block scored 46 points.  Johnson did it by winning the long jump (21-2.75), triple jump (43-11), 200-meter dash (22.92), 400 meter dash (50.60), finishing fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.58), and anchored the winning 4×400 meter relay team.  Block won the high jump (5-11), finished second in the triple jump (43-5), won the 110 meter hurdles (15.46), won the 300 meter hurdles (39.78), tied for third in the 200 meter dash (23.44), and ran the third leg of the winning 4×400 meter relay team.  Trey Rucker was next in scoring with 24.5 points by finishing second in the long jump (20-3.25), third in the triple jump (43-4.5), third in the 400-meter dash (53.46), ran the first leg of the winning 4×400 meter relay team, ran the first leg of the second place 4×800 meter relay team, and competed in the high jump (5-2).  Ty’Ron Gulley was next in scoring with 16.5 points.  Gulley finished third in the long jump (20-1), tied for third in the 200-meter dash (23.44), finished sixth in the 100 meter dash (11.62), and anchored the second place 4×100 meter relay team.  Jaylen Hopson was next with 15 points.  Hopson finished sixth in the long jump (19-1), eighth in the triple jump (38-11), fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.53), fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.70), and ran the second leg of the second place 4×100 meter relay team.  Tywan Thompson was next with 14.5 points.  Thompson finished fifth in the pole vault (11-6), third in the 800 meter run (2:13.92), and ran the second leg of the winning 4×400 meter relay team and second leg of the second place finishing 4×800 meter relay team.  Jason Patrick Jr. scored 10 points by winning the discus with a throw of 126-2.  Others scoring at district for the Curley Wolves were Keonte Franklin (8), Kobe Gillard (8), Keihnan Paden (6), Zach Steed (5), Lane Dalrymple (5), John Luke Kaiser (5), Damien Kisselburg (4), Brayden Matthews (4), Jack Arnette (4), Lasse Tillwick (3), Eli Quidera (3), Derriun Thompson (2), Ty Koger (2), Jacaylon Zachery (2), and Tyler Doucet (2).  Others competing at district were Bryston Samuels, Luis Rabadan, Cam Cox, Jeffery Williams, Trent Knight, Chadarrius Haynie, Courtland Mixon, Kengku Ly, Devin Rash, Tyler Morrow, Vance Kisselburg, Jayce Crayne, Bayliss Price, DeTavern Thompson, Maddux Yates, Javel Page, and Luke Cole. This was a great group of young men that came out to win the 13th straight district championship, and they left no doubt as they did it. 

The 2019 season was another great season for the Curley Wolves.  The Wolves finished 10th in the Prescott Army National Guard Wolf Relays with 37 points, finished 5th in the Ashdown Panther Relays with 63 points, finished as runner-up in the Prescott Merchant Relays with 105 points, won the Genoa Dragon Relays with 160.5 points, finished 6th at the Arkansas High Doc Walker Hog Relays with 42 points, finished third in the Dequeen Collin Raye Relays with 87.5 points, finished as runner-up at the Nashville Coca Cola relays with 87 points, won the 7-3A District Track Meet with 236 points, and won the Class 3A State Championship with 78.5 points.  The JV Wolves scored 1 point at the Prescott Army National Guard Wolf Relays, 1 point at the Ashdown Panther Relays, 8 points at the Prescott Merchant Relays, and 12 points at the Genoa Dragon Relays.  The Curley Wolves scored 918.5 points on the season for an average of 102.06 points per meet.  The Wolves were led in scoring by Adrian Block with 231.25 points which is third most in school history followed by Ryan Johnson with 183.25 points.  Both joined The Century Club once again.  Trey Rucker was next in scoring with 85.5 points followed by Tywan Thompson with 68.25, Ty’Ron Gulley (41.75), Derriun Thompson (32.25), Lane Dalrymple (28), Zach Steed (27.5), Keonte Franklin (22.5), Kobe Gillard (20), Cade Poole (18.5), Lasse Tillwick (18.25), Jaylen Hopson (17), Jason Patrick Jr. (15), Tyler Doucet (14.5), Jack Arnette (13), Keihnan Paden (12), Damien Kisselburg (10),  Kengku Ly (8.75), Jeffery Williams (7.25), Luis Rabadan (6), Cam Cox (5.25), Justin Wilson (5), John Luke Kaiser (5), Courtland Mixon (4), Brayden Matthews (4), Quantas Gulley (3), Eli Quidera (3), Ty Koger (2), Jacaylon Zachery (2), Jeffrey Martin (1.5), Bryston Samuels (1.25), Trent Knight (1), Chadarrius Haynie (1), Vance Kisselburg, Jayce Crayne, Bayliss Price, DeTavern Thompson, Javel Page, Luke Cole, Maddux Yates, Devin Rash, Jacob Jackson, Landon Cross, Jayce Ingram, and Ky’Ree Pearson.  These young men did a great job of upholding the winning tradition of The Prescott Curley Wolves.

The 2019 Season was finished off with The Meet of Champions and the Decathlon.  Ryan Johnson became the first athlete in school history to win an event at The Meet of Champions by winning the triple jump with a jump of 45-3.75.  Shortly after, Adrian Block joined him with another win in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.67 which is also a new school record.  Two events and two wins for the Curley Wolves.  At the Decathlon, Adrian Block and Trey Rucker competed in the two-day event.  Block scored with 5,838 points to finish in 6th place and Rucker scored 4,711 points to finish in 30th place.  Both athletes competed hard for the Curley Wolves!
