South part of county hit hardest by Wednesday storm

PRESCOTT – While the City of Prescott got off light from Wednesday night’s storms, the same couldn’t be said for the south part of Nevada County.

Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver said there were a few areas where power was out, including one on Elm St. Thursday morning, but there was no trouble with limbs or trees being toppled from the storm.

Nevada County Judge Mark Glass initially said there wasn’t much damage in the county, but that was before crews from the Prescott Road and Bridge Department were able to get to the south part of the county. There, he said, at least six roads were impassable due to trees and limbs blocking them. In addition, trees and limbs were on power lines, but nothing could be done until crews from SWRPEO or Entergy got there to deal with the live lines.

“It was a mess,” he said. However, crews have been working pretty much all night to clear the debris and make the roads passable again.
