HOPE – Work has started on the reconstruction of wall mural at the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council location at 200 E. Division St. in Hope.
Mary Overton, the original designer and artist who, working with Hope students, is working to restore the wall to its original condition.
Weather and sun had created a need to refurbish the wall.
Overton is being assisted by students in the Hope Parks and Recreation summer program, and by her father James from Columbia County.
The wall has been scrapped, power washed and a second detailed scraping is underway. It will be sealed, painted, then a second seal coating will protect the wall for years to come.
Mary Overton and her father James work at scrapping off peeling paint on the wall mural in turndown Hope.
Students from the Hope Parks and Recreation summer youth program assisted in scrubbing peeling paint from the mural.
