PRESCOTT – Saturday morning saw the 18th Annual Jim McKenzie Cancer Golf Tournament played at the Prescott Country Club.

The event began in 2001 with the goal remaining the same: raise money to help cancer patients in Nevada County so they could get to and from medical appointments and cancer treatments. Normally the Nevada County Cancer Association (NCCA) raises between $4,000 and $6,000 to help with transportation costs. The NCCA is a 501(c)3 organization, meaning all donations are tax deductible.

The morning flight saw seven teams hit the links, which were covered in dew. Still, all playing had a good time as the temperatures were down (though the humidity was up). The tourney again was a four-person scramble.

Getting ready for the tourney is a labor-intensive effort with NCCA volunteers getting everything ready, seeking contributions for the silent auction, making cole slaw and baked beans, while ordering bbq pork and brisket for the lunch meal between flights.
