PRESCOTT – This year the Nevada County Fair’s talent show has been moved from Sept. 7 to Sept. 14.

The talent show will begin at 5 p.m. The categories remain the same: vocal solo; vocal group; instrumental solo; dance solo; dance group; and variety.

All acts will be judged on talent, appearance, preparedness and entertainment value, with awards given to the winners in each category. The judges decision will be final and scores will be kept confidential and critiques aren’t allowed to be given to anyone. Winners can go on to the Southwest District Fair and Arkansas State Fair. The entry fee is $15 per act with the deadline to enter Sept. 4.

The talent show is to discover, develop and encourage talented young people in Nevada County. The show is primarily for amateur talent and to let young people demonstrate their artistic capabilities. All contestants must be between 4-23 years of age by the opening day of the state fair. Contestants looking older or younger should be prepared to prove their age.

There will be three age groups: kids talent – ages four to 14; junior talent – 14-17; and senior talent – 18-23. All acts must be finished within the three minute time limit, this includes recorded introductions.

Contestants cannot have ever been convicted of any crime or have criminal charges pending. There will be no substitution of individuals, change in category or change in music after the entry form has been submitted. All acts must perform on stage and verify the stage’s dimensions before their performance. Contestants are also required to be on time for all rehearsals and contests. Those showing up late or not showing up could be disqualified at the direction of the talent show director and/or fair manager.

Entry forms must be completely filled out and signed by the contestants and their parents or guardians. Any display of poor sportsmanship, unbecoming behavior, interference, disturbance or behavioral problem created by a contestant, parent, official, relative or supporter could result in the contestant being disqualified.

There is a dress code for the show, which is the contestant’s “Sunday best”. There can be no holes or rips in shirts or pants. As this is a family-oriented event, inappropriate song lyrics in the vocal or variety categories, or inappropriate movement in the dance divisions are grounds for immediate disqualification. Officials can interrupt performances if they deem them inappropriate for the contest.

Props must be part of the act and no decorations will be allowed n the stage. Questionable props must be approved by a contest official.

These are the same rules as used by the Arkansas State Fair’s talent competition.

Entry forms and fees should be sent to: Nevada County Youth Talent Competition, 615 E. 3rd South D4, Prescott, AR 71857. Entry forms can be picked up at the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce or downloaded from the fair’s facebook page: www.facebook/NevadaCountyFair-Prescott.
