Pageants, rodeo end fair
PRESCOTT – A day of pageants and rodeo concluded the 2019 Nevada County Rodeo Saturday.
The day began with pageants for the smaller contestants at 10:30 a.m. Two contestants were in the infant division: Baylee Miller and Aliza Thompson. Thompson was named most photogenic and first runner up, while Miller took best dressed and the crown.
In the baby category there were three contestants: Mavis McKay, Brinley Morris and Neveah Evans. McKay was the second runner up, while Morris was tabbed most photogenic and first runner up. Evans was crowned the winner and named best dressed.
In the tiny miss division, seven girls vied for the crown: Kalli Lewis, Shiloah Glass, Adaline Cummings, Jordan Burton, Emma Kate Morrow, Addison Zitano and Sophia Simmons. Lewis was named most photogenic, with Burton taking best dressed and second runner up. Zitano was named first runner up while Simmons went home with the title.
Two competed in the little miss division; Summer Ridgell and Lyla Johnson. Johnson was named most photogenic and the winner, while Ridgell was first runner up.
The evening’s event featured competition in the petite, young, debutante, junior and miss divisions, along with the talent show.
Five people competed in the talent show. In the senior vocal division, Kendall Laughard was named the winner with Sydney Nevins first runner up. Essense Thomas was the only entry in the senior dance solo portion and was named the winner. In the junior vocals, Peyton Christopher won over Baleigh Laughard, who was named first runner up.
Four girls competed in the petite division, won by Olivia Simmons, who was also named best dressed. Amarah Jackson was first runner up, while Averie Jackson was tabbed most photogenic. Ameliah McKay also competed.
Haylie PIckett was the only entrant in the young miss group and was named most photogenic, best dressed and took the crown.
Blair Ratcliff and Grayson Jackson vied for the debutante crown. Jackson was named most photogenic and the first runner up, while Ratcliff was best dressed and crowned Miss Debutante NC.
In the junior group, Cassidi Callicott, Zoe Fincher, Danielle Hamilton and Victoria Franklin competed. Fincher took photogenic, Miss congeniality and was named first runner up while Franklin was named best dressed, won the sportswear competition and interview portion along with the crown.
Madison Hooks and Ashlynn Hart competed in the fair queen division. Hart took most photogenic, while Hooks won swimwear, interview, best dressed and the title.
Following the fair queen pageant, it was time for the Nevada County Fair Rodeo. The stands were packed with fans as the youngsters hit the arena seeing who had the fastest steed in the stick horse barrel race. This was followed by an egg toss contest, calf riding and mutton bustin.
