Halloween in Hope

Halloween in Hope dawned chilly but the various characters show turned up at place of business across town certainly warmed the hearts of all who enjoy the holiday.  We’re sure County Clerk Karen Smith’s “Cruella DeVille” would strike fear in the hearts of dalmatians everywhere.  Seeing County Judge Jerry Crane in stripes was surrealistic considering his nearly 20 years as Hempstead County Sheriff.  We’re hoping County Treasurer Judy Flowers didn’t get honey all over the courthouse as she portrayed Winnie the Pooh!    Farmers Banks & Trust used the movie “Despicable Me” as a theme.  Janet Choate made a fine minion while Paul Ball portrayed “Gru” from the popular animated feature.  There were a number of other minions at the bank too.     Everything was “groovy” at the Hempstead County library where it looked like the “summer of love” despite the frigid weather.  The ladies were decked out as hippies and assured us everything was “:cool”!     First National Bank of Tom Bean went with a Dr. Suess theme with the “cat in the hat”, the “grinch”, and many other beloved Suess characters.  Our favorite at this bank were the characters “Thing 1” and “Thing 2”.  “Thing 2” is expecting and she also carried a designation for the baby as “Thing 3”.       Probably the best costume we saw on Halloween was at Medi-Mart where a genuine zombie was filling prescriptions.  One patron of the pharmacy said the zombie “scared the mess out of me”.  We’re wondering what it’s like to hear about one’s prescription side effects from a member of the “walking dead”.
