Hope Lions Heat from John Gray of Pafford
The Hope Lions heard from John Gray of Pafford Medical Services. Gray told the Lions that ambulances have changed a lot in his 26 years in the business. He said now ambulances are basically a “rolling emergency room, rolling ICU on wheels”. He said Pafford has ten to twelve dispatchers on duty and they try to dispatch an ambulance within 45 seconds. He said the dispatchers can often offer instructions such as for CPR, delivering a baby, rescue breathing or bleeding control. He said the dispatchers are the first care prior to the arrival of the ambulance. He said if they pick up a potential heart attack victim they can do a “12 lead EKG” just as in the hospital. He said this can verify if the victim is having a heart attack and and what part of the heart is affected. He said they can also give medicine to help save heart muscle. Gray encouraged persons who think they’re having a heart attack it stroke to call an ambulance as opposed to going in a car. Gray also told the Lions on how to avoid Burns and what to do if someone suffers a burn. This subject is of interest to the Lions as they work with hot grease are that fish fries.
