Touchdown bell ready for Friday’s playoff game
PRESCOTT – For years there a bell was rung every time the Curley Wolves scored a touchdown.
Once Prescott High School moved and a new field was built, the bell was lost. However, Dennis Pruitt, a coach at Prescott Junior High School, and in the 2019 Leadership Nevada County class, and his team, LaShelle Hamilton, Colby Tillman and Cassidy Lawrence, decided their project would be to replace the bell.
The goal was to sell memory bricks to fund the project and have the bell in place for Prescott’s first home game. Things didn’t turn out as planned and took longer than expected. Pruitt said 90 of the bricks were sold at $100 each, which bought the bell and paid for the tower it rests on, along with the walk to it, with some left over.
The left over funds, he said, could be used to light the bell, either by placing spotlights on the time clock and scoreboard, or on the ground surrounding the bell.
However, the important thing is this – the bell is now in place. Eric Barbaree came out and gave the rope a tug to ring the bell before the class showed up. Once the leadership team arrived, each too a turn at ringing the bell, which rings loud and clear.
Friday night, when the Wolves host the Cardinals of Pine Bluff Dollarway, the bell will be rang for the first time officially after Prescott scores its first touchdown. The way the Wolves have scored this season, the bell will be ringing most of the night.
