BES Christmas program Dec. 12
BLEVINS – The December meeting of the Blevins School Board was brief, but there were a few matters of note.
The K-3 Christmas program will be on December 12, at 7 p.m., and the High School Band students will assist the production.
The Blevins High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) teams competed at the District Star Events on November 20th. Ten of the 11 Blevins teams qualified for the state competition, which will be held in March.
The fifth and sixth grades have shown a marked increase in attendance after employing Attendance Shout-out. Attendance for those grades was up to 97 percent last month.
Superintendent Dixon observed the school’s abysmal scores in the community service portion of the ESSA did not reflect the school’s community service activities. They didn’t count towards the ESSA score because they were not properly coded, something Dixon is working to correct.
Finally the NWEA Winter testing for K-2nd grades showed great progress overall. For example, the second grade showed a 99.3 percent growth in reading. Historically, such testing results further improve over the course of the school year. These scores show improvement for the district as it focuses on increasing the school’s ESSA scores by year’s end.
