Kiwanis Hears Program From Street Department Superintendent

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard a program by City of Hope Street Department Superintendent Tim Blue on December 17th.  Blue noted his department has a staff of 8 including himself.  He outlined some of the services his department provides include maintenance of drainage, culverts, and ditches.  The department maintains the pavement in the city and repair streets.  Blue said the department operates the street sweeper and the leaf sweeper.  These services maintain good drainage.  He noted vegetative waste helps keep them busy this time of year.  He said in the fall they often pick up 1,500 cubic yards of pine straw and leaves within a month’s time.  The department also operates a brush removal unit/grapple truck.  Blue said they have picked up 300 brush piles within a month and usually pick up at least 100 brush piles a month.  He talked about the work they do in fixing the streets and road structure.  He noted one of his department’s more unusual jobs this year was to mount the new statues at the Hub downtown.  Blue also his department has freshened up and painted the parking areas downtown.
