PRESCOTT – In December 2019, the Nevada County Depot and Museum received a grant in the amount of $4,720 from the Arkansas Department of Heritage.

The money will be used to purchase five historical markers to be placed at the Prairie D’Ane Battlefield entrance at Highway 19 and Exit 46 on I-30.

Four of the wayside markers will have information about the Civil War battle that took place in Nevada County. The signage will include the names of Confederate commanders, Union commanders, the Collins Battery, personal stories of local soldiers and the first Union soldier killed in the battle.

The fifth marker will be a map of the battlefield itself with key points of interest. This, Judy Duke, curator of the museum, said, is hopefully the beginning of the development of the battlefield. The goal is to promote the historic significance of this hallowed ground and develop it as a historic tourism destination.
