Personal, property taxes need to be assessed by June 1

HOPE – Hempstead County Assessor, Kim Smith, would like to remind everyone to assess all personal property and business personal property by Monday, June 1, 2020, to avoid a 10 percent late penalty.

You  may assess your personal property by phone or online at www.scoutassess.com.  Personal property includes, but is not limited to :  vehicles, boats, boat motors, boat trailers, utility trailers, livestock, tractors, farm equipment, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, side-by-sides, utility vehicles, airplanes, medium and heavy trucks and trailers, heavy equipment such as backhoes and bulldozers, tractor trucks etc.

Business personal property may NOT be assessed by phone,   but may be assessed by fax, mail or email hcassessor@hempsteadcountyar.com.  Mailed business assessments must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2020 to avoid a late penalty.  If you own or manage a business and did not receive a 2020 business rendition form or have misplaced it, please contact our office.

Please notify the Assessor’s Office if you have made any changes or improvements to your real estate.  Examples include new homes, commercial buildings, additions, decks, garages, shops, storage buildings, poultry houses, etc.

Under Arkansas Amendment 79, if you own your home and it is your principal place of residence, you could qualify for up to $375 Homestead Tax Credit.  Recorded real estate contracts are also eligible.  If you are 65 or older, or if you are 100% Social Security disabled you could qualify for a “Freeze” on your assessed valuation.   Please contact the Assessor’s Office for more information.
