Downtown Hope Mural Project Underway

HOPE – The Hope Downtown Network (HDN) has announced the Downtown Mural Project is underway. Thanks to the funding from the Hope Tourism Commission, HDN can begin the initial stages that will ultimately result in murals being painted on various downtown businesses.

As Bob Erwin pointed out when presenting the plan to the commission, “Murals create a tangible sense of place and destination, resulting in increased foot traffic. Murals also create important conversations and expand thought while adding color, vibrancy and character to downtown revitalization. Murals can serve as a welcome point, and they can also be interactive or historic in nature.”

Hope Downtown Network will call upon the expertise provided through Main Street Arkansas. The consultants will guide HDN in selecting high traffic, high visibility locations for this first round of murals.

Erwin also stated, “With the funding from the Tourism Commission, we hope to be able to produce no less than two, possibly three, murals in Historic Downtown Hope. The cost of each mural depends upon color, size, and detail.”

HDN has a short list of professional muralists, and they will move forward in visiting with them. They will visit about the variety of murals prior to selecting designs.
