Fire At Rainbow of Challenges Workshop Downtown

Firemen responded to a fire at the Rainbow of Challenges Workshop at Elm and Division Tuesday evening shortly before 10pm.  Apparently a dryer in the facility caught on fire.  Firemen removed what appeared to be burning clothes from the facility.  Firemen were seen dragging scorched appliances outside.  There appeared to be more smoke and water damage than fire damage.  Sprinklers went off in the west end of the building.  There were no injuries.

Thanks to the quick work of the Hope Fire Department history did not repeat itself at Elm & Division.  The site was the location of Hope’s worst commercial fire in terms of loss of life.  The Barlow Hotel burned on the site in September 1964 resulting in the deaths of three people in the hotel.
