Poole wins national DAR essay contest

PRESCOTT – It was a special day for Caytlee Poole Wednesday, as she was honored as the national winner in the annual DAR essay contest.

Normally, the winner would be invited to Washington, D.C. where they would be presented with their award. However, following COVID protocols, there was no invitation made and Poole’s recognition was done in the conference room at Prescott Junior High School. Members of the local chapter of the DAR were on hand, along with teachers and family members.

Superintendent Robert Poole, who’s also her father, said this was the first time a student from Prescott has won the national title and it could be the first time anyone from Arkansas has won the title. Caytlee has won the state title the last two years and has been competing in the contest since she was in the fifth grade.

State Rep. Danny Watson was on hand to congratulate Poole for her accomplishment. Robert Poole thanked Watson, saying the state rep. is always ready and willing to help in the cause of education. Johnny Key, director of the Arkansas Department of Education, sent a video to Poole congratulating her on the win.
