HOPE – Prescott moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 49-13 win against the Bobcats of Hope Friday night.

The game was nowhere near as close as the final score would indicate as the Wolves starters dominated the entire first half. Hope had no answer to Prescott’s defense, which literally shut down the ‘Cat running game. The ‘Cats’ offense was on the field most of the first half, mostly because Prescott’s offense scored quickly. Prescott’s longest offensive drive in the first half took nine plays, and this happened twice.

Hope had the size, but Prescott had the speed, and speed dominated for the Wolves.

The game began with Hope kicking the ball out of bounds, setting Prescott up on its 35. The Wolves needed nine plays to drive 65 yards, with Carston Poole scoring on a one-yard run. The two-point conversion made it 8-0 with 9:08 left in the first.

Hope had three offensive possessions in the first quarter, all three and out.

Prescott scored on two plays on its second possession after starting at its 39 following a ‘Cat punt. Poole broke free to the Hope 39 on first down with Jacaylon Zachery finishing the drive on the next play. The try for two made it 16-0 with 5:56 to go.

Prescott’s third possession began on its 48. Poole connected with Caleb Harris to the Hope 42. The teams swapped penalties before Jaylen Hopson took a toss to the house. The point after put the Wolves up 23-0 with 2:15 showing.

The Wolves started the team’s fourth drive at its 41 after another Hope punt. The Wolves moved to the ‘Cat 46 as the period came to an end. Prescott used a more sustained drive, taking nine plays, to score its fourth touchdown of the game. The score came on a one-yard run by Nashville transfer Grigsby. The PAT put the Wolves up 30-0.

Hope mounted its longest drive of the game, at the time, moving from its 34 to the Prescott 11 before turning the ball over on downs on its sixth play. An unsportsmanlike call moved the ball to the 26 where Prescott took over.

Two plays later, Poole hit Zachery with a 74-yard touchdown strike. The PAT was no good, but with 5:03 left in the half, the Wolves were up 36-0.

Hope set up shop at its 29 and went three and out, punting to the Prescott 19.

Again, it took the Wolves two plays to score, with Hopson taking a pitch, finding a seam and flat out racing past the ‘Cat defense. The PAT made it 43-0.

The ensuing kick went out of bounds giving Hope the ball on its 35.

Hope’s offense couldn’t get anything going and set up to punt. However, the snap sailed over the punter’s head and was recovered in the end zone by Prescott for its final touchdown of the game. The PAT was no good, but Prescott was up 49-0.

Hope took over at its 33 with 1:57 left in the half. The ‘Cats were able to drive downfield, mostly with the passing game and scored in seven plays. The touchdown came on a 29-yard pass. The PAT made it 49-7 and ended the half.

The ‘Cats ran 30 offensive plays in the first half to 27 for Prescott. Hope added 19 plays in the second half, while Prescott only ran eight.

The mercy rule was in effect to start the third quarter and Prescott sent out substitutes.

The ‘Cats were able to move against the subs, running 11 plays before turning the ball over on downs at the Prescott 17 to start the third period.

Prescott ran three plays, gaining a yard. On fourth down Prescott lined up to punt only to see Jaylen Johnson run instead. Johnson got to the 27 before being stopped, giving Hope the ball on downs.

Hope got to the 20 on first down as the third ended. The ‘Cats scored on the first play of the final period, but the PAT was wide, leaving the score 49-13.

Neither team did anything offensively for the rest of the game.

This was the first time this season Prescott didn’t score 50 points in a game. However, the Wolves are still averaging more than 50 points per game at 51.67 ppg.

Next week, the Wolves will be on the road as Prescott travels to Horatio for a date with the Lions. This will open up conference play.
