Gas leak at PHS

PRESCOTT – What should have been a routine drilling for soil samples turned into what could have been a disaster Monday.

Crews from PSI Intertek were drilling for soil samples in the parking lot between Prescott Junior High School and the old gym when they drilled into a gas line about two-feet down. The Prescott Fire Department was called in, as was a crew from Centerpoint Energy.

The soil sample was needed as this area is the proposed location for a new health and physical education facility.

Justin Reeves, project manager for the Prescott Elementary School project, said this gas line will have to be relocated before work on the new structure can begin. The incident occurred after 4 p.m. when there were few people at school.
