Members of the Hempstead County Quorum Court attend a local redistricting presentation by Stephanie Carper of DataScout, LLC. on November 5. The redistricting proposal establishes new boundaries in the county to more closely represent the accurate population of each district. The counts are based on the total number of people living in each district as determined by the most recent national census.

Total population of Hempstead County is at 20,015 according to the census with a target population per district of 1,819. These averages are considered as a “one person, one vote” principle in order to balance voting throughout the county. Of the 11 districts, it was District Four locally, which added the largest number of individuals in their district since the previous census, gaining 396 more individuals for a 21.77 percent increase over the target population.
