Hope man facing several charges

HOPE – A 14-year-old Frederick County, Virginia girl has been located safely and a Hope man is under arrest facing various charges, to include abduction.

Thursday, January 13, Hempstead County Deputies were advised by Frederick County Virginia Sheriff’s Office of a possible location of a missing 14-year-old female in Hempstead County. Local authorities were given two possible locations of where the female may be. Hope Police Department officers went to a location on South Circle Drive and deputies went to a residence on Hempstead County Road 118 East.

Upon arrival at the Hempstead 118 East location, Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton said deputies located the 14-year-old female along with a 23-year-old male identified as Christopher Lane Stone. Deputies recovered the 14-year-old female and detained Stone pending an investigation. Both were transported to the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office and questioned by investigators.

Investigators say they determined that the 14-year-old and Stone allegedly met on a dating site and had been corresponding for about six months over the internet. It is believed that Stone allegedly left Hempstead County on January 8th and traveled to Winchester, Virginia and picked up the 14-year-old, transporting her back to Hempstead County arriving on Monday, January 10th. Authorities allege that Stone engaged in sexual contact during the trip back from Virginia and after arriving in Hempstead County.

Christopher L. Stone was arrested for Rape and Internet Stalking of a Child, at this time the investigation is on-going and may result in other charges being filed.Stone was booked into the Hempstead County Detention Center where he is awaiting a first Court Appearance. He is also facing abduction charges in Virginia.

The 14 year old remains at the Hempstead County Sheriff’s office awaiting the arrival of her parents from Virginia.

In a statement, the Virginia authorities said there were over 3,000 post shares of the disappearance that reached over 170,000 people included the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Upon developing a possible link, Hempstead County authorities served a warrant for Abduction at 2:48 am.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office offered their thanks to the local authorities. The juvenile’s home in Winchester. Virginia is approximately 1,100 miles from Hope.
