The John Cain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Hempstead County Library for their February meeting. The program chair, Gwen Webb, opened the Antique Show by telling about her “sad” stove heated irons used for ironing clothes. They are called “sad” meaning heavy in weight because they hold the heat longer. Other members told about a “friendship quilt”, WWI fighting sword, a butter turn jar, a butter mold made of wood, old pictures in frames from the 1800s, a framed certificate from a judge for service in the county, an accordion style camera, and an inlay jewelry box from Africa. Everyone enjoyed the stories about the antiques. It was stressed about the importance of keeping genealogy records of families so future family members know about their ancestors.
