Hempstead County Quorum Court
The Hempstead County Quorum Court met Thursday for their March meeting. The only agenda item was the Library Board ; however, this was tabled.
Sheriff Singleton said the north end of the county will have an influx of people starting the 30th for the Mud Nationals at Hillarosa near Blevins. He said 8,000 to 10,000 people are expected.
Terrie James invited everyone to the Master Gardeners program on Monday at Hempstead Hall at 5:30pm.
JP Ed Darling said there has been a request for an additional bailiff. He said total cost including benefits would be approximately $46,000 annually. JP Jesse Henry asked about cameras at the courthouse and JP Steve Atchley said the new courthouse is covered with cameras. The JP’s voted to add a bailiff.
JP Jesse Henry asked Sheriff Singleton if he can cover the Mud Nationals and the rest of the county. He said they would do their best.
Deputy Prosecutor Jim Burke said the courts and the Prosecutor’s office would benefit greatly from another bailiff. Sheriff Singleton said it will take three months to get a person certified for the position.
JP Ed Darling noted State Senatorial candidate Steve Crowell was visiting the meeting. The meeting then adjourned.
