Murrel Johnson

Sister Murrel Johnson, affectionately known as “Punkin”, passed away the morning of Saturday, March 19, 2022. Murrell was the oldest of five children born to Olen and Ora Johnson. Murrelgraduated from McRae High School in 1963. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas. She began her teaching career at Lockesburg School District and later taught at Prescott Elementary School. In addition to her long teaching career, she shared her love for the elderly by working at Prescott Manor and Hillcrest Nursing Homes. Because of her love for children, she tutored many children to prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

Murrel joined Munns Chapel at an early age. She remained active and committed to her church
until her health failed. She served many years as director of Vacation Bible School and choir president in addition to other positions including the youth ministry and women of purpose.She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Olen Jr. (Sharron) and Fred. She leaves to cherish her memories, a sister, Judy (James) Montgomery of Houston, TX; brother,Joseph (Cora) Johnson of Prescott; six nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Murrel’s Home Going Service will be held at 10:00 A. M., Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Munn’s Chapel Baptist Church in Prescott, Arkansas. A visitation will be held at Brandon’s Mortuary in Hope, on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 4:00 – 6:00 P. M. Her earthly body will be laid to rest at Deann Cemetery in Prescott.
