James Larry Harper

James Larry Harper, of Prescott, passed from this life on March 28, 2022 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

Larry was born on March 31, 1946 to the late Robert and Arlene Harper in Prescott, Arkansas, where he lived for seventy five years.  On October 5, 1967, Larry married the love of his life Carolyn Sams Harper. Larry and Carolyn were married for over fifty-four years and have three children, Lorie, Darren, and DeWayne. Larry supported his family as an avid truck driver, from 1971 until his retirement in 2019. He was known on the road by his CB handle, “Outhouse”.

Larry never met a stranger.  He loved meeting and getting to know people as he traveled for work and those in his community. Larry enjoyed attending church at Midway United Methodist, gardening, fishing, and occasionally the lottery scratch off. He always knew the best places to go for fried catfish. His favorite hobby was spending time visiting with his numerous friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sams Harper. Three children: Lorie Harper Stricklin of Prescott, Darren Harper of Spring Hill, and DeWayne Harper (Kari) of Arkadelphia.  Five grandchildren and one great grandchild: Haley Harris Pilgreen (Ethan) and their son Jensen of Arkadelphia, Forrest Stricklin of Prescott, Hayden Harper of Arkadelphia, Wesley and Lucas Harper both of Spring Hill. One sister, Darlene Harper Poole (David) of Prescott. Niece, Lindsay Poole of Rogers and nephew, Tyler Poole of Prescott.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home in Hope, Arkansas.

Services will be held at 2pm Friday, April 1, 2022 at Midway United Methodist Church in Prescott, officiated by Neal Ridling and Terry Lynn Bunnell. The pallbearers are Tyler Poole, Joey Williams, Kevin Williams. Chase Shelby, Carl Sams, and Neal Sams. Honorary pallbearers are David Poole, Jeff Eckhart, and Bobby Harden.

Interment to follow at Midway Cemetery, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Midway United Methodist Church in Prescott.
