PRESCOTT – Things kicked off bright and early Saturday with the 12th Annual Plant Show and Sale sponsored by the Nevada County Master Gardeners at the Barn at Willow Oaks Acres.

First up was patrons checking out all the plant available and buying those they just couldn’t live without to spruce up their yards this spring and summer. This was followed by a light breakfast and a visit to the other booths to see what they had to offer.

Blann Britton addressed the packed house on the topic of roses. Britton is a graduate of Millsap College, a family man and financial advisor, along with being a retired farmer. He retired from farming in 2002, turning his attention to his first love – roses, his garden and truck patch. When it comes to roses, Britton has 600 hybrid roses, along with 100 knockout and shrub roses, not to mention his half-acre truck patch and 55 fruit trees and bushes.

Britton was followed by Minnie Shelor, a graduate of Kansas State University with a Master’s in horticulture. She is also the garden manager at Garvan Gardens in Hot Springs, which is a treat for visitors any time of the year. She talked about how she designs and plans displays at Garvan Gardens.
