HOPE – James Black is one of the famous people to live in Hempstead County. He is best known for making a knife for Jim Bowie at his blacksmith shop near Washington. His legacy has continued today with even a new festival in the county being named in his honor. Come learn about the tragic life of James Black and the current exhibit “James Black: Life and Legacy” with Josh Williams, Curator at Historic Washington State Park.  The Hempstead County Historical Society will meet on Tuesday evening April 26, 2022 at the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Arkansas at 7pm. Everyone is welcome.

The Historical Society seeks to bring awareness to the rich heritage and history of Hempstead County. Come and share your history with us.
