McKinnon officer spotlight of week

PRESCOTT – Officer Mae (Mems) McKinnon was born in Texarkana, Texas and raised in Prescott, Arkansas.

Officer McKinnon joined the Arkansas Army National Guard in 1995, as a senior in high school. She served for 24 years before retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 2019. While serving in the AR Army National Guard, Officer McKinnon worked as a unit supply specialist and a finance management tech. She served in two federal deployments, several state deployments and received numerous awards and medals for her honorable service. She also was a member of the AR Army National Guard Honor Guard Team where she had the honor of rendering a final salute to fallen service members and veterans. Officer McKinnon say’s she has made several friends who became family while serving the citizens of Arkansas.

While serving those 24 years in the ARNG, Officer McKinnon also worked in and around law enforcement for her civilian career. She has worked as a jailer, jail administrator and jail secretary for the Nevada County S.O. She also worked as Legal Support Specialist for the Office of Child Support Enforcement for 12 years.

In between being a Citizen Soldier, she has spent her time raising her son, Patrick McKinnon who is currently attending HSU to major in music education and who is her greatest supporter. On Friday nights during the fall, you can count on seeing her at football games cheering on our Prescott Curley Wolves. Officer McKinnon say’s many of times these past five years she has wanted to relocate away from Prescott but something keeps her grounded here at “HOME”. She say’s this is where her roots and her memories of her family are and she looks forward to working with her new additional family, protecting and serving Prescott as a Police Officer with our department.
