Kiley Burton

On February 20, 1972, God sent a precious baby boy to Jim and Virginia Burton.
Kiley Shawn Burton was born in Hope, Arkansas, to these loving parents and to his
grandparents, Johnny and Velma Avery Lowdermilk, and Howard and Wanda Loyd
Burton. What joy they shared to welcome this little one into their homes. Later in life,
Kiley continued to bless their families when his children Brady and Brooke Burton were
born. Kiley loved his children with all his heart. He was proud of both of them.
Sports were important to Kiley’s life. He not only loved to watch the games, but
played them to the fullest. From Rotary Little League baseball to the Prescott High
School tennis team, you could see and feel his excitement of the competition. In later
years, Kiley continued to share his love of baseball, football, and tennis with his family
and numerous others. Without a doubt, everyone knew Kiley loved the Dallas Cowboys
and the Houston Astros. He rarely missed watching their games and loved to harass his
friends who were not supporters of his teams.

Kiley enjoyed coaching little league sports. His dedication for sharing this love
was evident in molding future athletes and in instilling the love of sports in these young
lives. He enjoyed coaching his son Brady’s baseball teams from the time Brady was 4
years old until he made the high school team, as well as his daughter Brooke’s numerous
softball teams, and undoubtedly made a positive impression on many. Even his young
nephew Jase still talks about the time Uncle Kiley coached his team, and taught them a
“trick play.” He also enjoyed teaching Brooke and Brady how to play tennis. Kiley never
knew the great effect he had on many, many people.

Kiley had a special bond with his daughter, Brooke. His nickname for her from
the time she was born was Bird. She would cling to his leg when she was young, and
pretend to be asleep so he would carry her into the house after a long car ride. He used to
sing “You are My Sunshine” to her when she was small, and Brooke spent their last day
together singing to him.

Kiley was quite the prankster, and he never met a stranger. This started at an early
age. The day before he turned 3, he struck out from his family’s home wearing only his
pajama bottoms on a cold February day, to see his cousins, Randy and Brian. He was
stopped by a neighbor at the elementary school, and promptly escorted home to his
hysterical, but very relieved mother. There was even an incident involving matches and
his cousins at his grandfather’s house that ended with a visit from the fire department.
Kiley enjoyed teasing his sister, Krista, who he nicknamed Moose at a young age. He
continued teasing her even in recent years. They share many fond memories of beach
trips, and one trip in particular when he chased Krista around the condo after an
argument; luckily Krista got away, and within an hour they were laughing about it. On
another trip, they had not even gotten out of Nevada County on their way to Destin,
Florida, when a deer ran out in front of their car and dented the passenger door. They
spent the whole trip entering and exiting the car from the driver’s side; all of them! They
sure did get some strange looks.
At the age of 12, Kiley was saved and joined Central Baptist Church. Kiley’s true
joy returned when he rededicated his life to Christ and asked Him to forgive him. After
receiving this forgiveness, there was much peace and contentment in Kiley’s life. He had
a great desire to give his testimony to everyone he came in touch with. Kiley was looking
forward to the day when he would be well enough to share his testimony with everyone.

Today, we know that Kiley is in Heaven where there is complete healing, love, and joy.
He left this world with a smile on his face knowing that he was going home.
Kiley’s motivational song, from the time he played Little League Baseball
throughout his battle with cancer, is “Eye of the Tiger.” It never failed to motivate him to
strive toward his goals, and his family even played it to encourage him on his worst days.
He has achieved his ultimate goal, perfect healing, in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Kiley is preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnny and Velma Avery
Lowdermilk, and Howard, and Wanda Loyd Burton, and his Aunt Barbara Lowdermilk.
Kiley left behind his loving parents, Jim and Virginia Burton of Prescott, Arkansas, his
son Brady (Jessica) Burton of Benton, Arkansas, his daughter Brooke Burton of Prescott,
Arkansas, his loving sister, Krista Burton and nephew Jase Burton of Prescott, Arkansas,
his granddaughter Luna Joy Burton of Benton, Arkansas, and his Uncle Ronnie (Paulette)
Lowdermilk of Prescott, Arkansas, and his Aunt Mary Vanscoy of Jonesboro, Arkansas,
as well as many other families.
