NCRU fun fest had something for everyone

PRESCOTT – Nevada County Rescue Unit’s first Fun Fest got off to a slow start Saturday.

There were two potential reasons for this. First, the event was at the same time as the Arkansas-South Carolina game. Second, and most likely, it was a hot, muggy afternoon. Though it may have started slow, it quickly picked up with patrons coming for the chicken dinners, which featured leg quarters, baked beans, potato salad and drinks. There was also a dessert auction later on to help satisfy those whose sweet tooth was acting up.

Youngsters, of all ages, had fun running into one another while wearing inflatable balls, and others tried their hand at the dunking booth. Those in the booth didn’t seem to mind getting dunked as it helped them cool off from the late summer heat. There was also a motorcycle show where visitors could vote on the best looking bike there.

Of course, what would a fun fest be without a silent auction. The NCRU’s auction included: handmade bowls, mosquito traps, head lamp, work light, seed sower, seed starter kit and a Red Ryder BB gun, among other items.

Some participated in the cornhole tourney, while others tried their hand at the horseshoe tournament. Children had fun playing in the bounce houses, conveniently set up on the shade.

However, behind the NCRU building was where the real contest was held with the fireman’s water ball battle. No one seemed to mind getting wet from the over spray as the firefighters did their best to move the ball to their opponent’s side. All in all, it was an afternoon of fun for everyone.
