PRESCOTT – A record crowd showed up for Monday night’s Trick or Treat on Elm Street.

This year’s event was different as it used both Elm and Third streets. However, it didn’t stop people from being lined up from Elm down E. 2nd St. S almost to Main Street. There were 58 vendors handing out candy and other goodies to the costumed kiddies.

Costumes ranged from superheros, always a popular choice, to scarecrows, with video game characters, fairies and several members of law enforcement. Some of the vendors got in the holiday spirit and came in costume as well, though most didn’t.

Those coming for the free candy lined up at Third and Elm in front of the Nevada County Jail, headed down Third, which was blocked by a firetruck at the end of the block, turned back toward Elm, made a left on Elm and exited on E. 2nd South. People began lining up around 4:15 p.m. though the event didn’t begin until 5:30, at which time, they were lined up halfway down elm. The crowd continued to grow throughout the evening.
