PRESCOTT – It’s playoff time in high school football with Prescott, 9-0, 5-0, set to meet the Drew Central Pirates, 4-6, 1-5, in first round action Friday night at Cummins Stadium.

There’s no such thing as an easy road to the title game and the Wolves have such teams as Rison, Charleston, Centerpoint, Newport and Hoxie on their side of the bracket. However, there’s no guarantee any of these teams will win Friday night and advance. As the old saying goes, “on any given night…”

The top round of the AAA bracket sees Glen Rose, 7-2, 6-0, with a Bye. Fordyce, 6-4, 4-2, will host the Mansfield Tigers, 7-3, 4-3; while the Melbourne Bearkatz, 10-0, 6-0, entertain the Jessieville Lions, 3-6, 2-4. From there, Fouke, 5-4, 3-2, will be home against the Greenland Pirates, 7-3, 5-2; Osceola’s Seminoles, 6-3, 6-0, host the Perryville Mustangs, 4-6, 2-4; and the Camden Harmony Grove Cardinals, 6-4, 4-2 will tangle with the Corning Bobcats, 3-7, 2-4. Smackover, 6-4, 3-2, is home against Barton, 4-5, 3-3 and the last game in the top portion of the bracket sees Booneville, 7-2, 5-1, with what should be an easy win against the Junction City Dragons, 4-5, 2-3.

Rison gets a free ride Friday night as the top seed in the bottom bracket. From there, though, Bismarck, 5-4, 4-2, hosts the Manilla Lions, 3-7, 3-3; Prescott, 9-0, 5-0, is home for Drew Central, 4-6, 1-5; Salem’s Greyhounds, 7-3, 4-2, entertain the Bobcats of Walnut Ridge, 7-3, 4-2; Charleston’s Tigers, 9-1, 7-0, host Gurdon, 6-3, 2-3; Centerpoint, 9-1, 6-1, is home for the Golden Arrows of Lavaca, 6-4, 3-4; Newport, 7-3, 5-1, is home for the Magnet Cove Panthers, 5-5, 3-3; and the Hoxie Mustangs, 7-3, 5-1, face the Quitman Bulldogs, 5-4, 3-3.

The way the bracket is set up, Prescott could be home for the majority of the playoffs. All games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
