PRESCOTT – Residents who enjoy walking will have it easier when they tread down Hwy. 67 as sidewalks are being installed.

The project started in 2018 and was put on hold due to COVID-19 for two years. Once things settled down with the pandemic, bids were sought and the low bid was or $230,769 from Wooster Construction Co.

Prescott  Mayor Terry Oliver said this one began in 2018 with the preliminary costs from the engineers projected to be $230,000. Four years later, he said, it’s $769 higher.

Councilman Howard Austin asked if the city has the money for it. He was told it did, and Oliver said the city’s part was 20 percent.

Godwin said the city has its part, adding the project was delayed by COVID-19. The project will involve constructing sidewalks on both sides of Hwy. 67, on one side from the DHS office to the former Smiles building, and on the other from Family Dollar to Baptist Clinic.
