PRESCOTT – Lion Curtis Lee Johnson was recognized at the annual Prescott Lions Club Auction Thursday night as having recently celebrated his 92nd birthday.

Club President Penny Lynch asked those in the audience to join in singing Happy Birthday to Johnson, who has been a Lion for decades.

From there, the auction was off and running with Don Honea again the primary auctioneer. The bidders were slow coming to the auction, as few were in the crowd when it began, but this quickly changed as people began to arrive at the Potlatch Building for the event.

Some of the items auctioned off were: indoor heaters, tackle box, hams, turkeys, jewelry, a wall clock, a trail camera, and children’s bench, along with several books donated from the Hempstead County Library, and a slew of gift certificates from area businesses and restaurants. The big items for the silent auction, which will be held Saturday from 6 p.m. until it’s over, include: a Ninja air fryer, 40-inch flat screen TV, apartment fridge, 170 piece tool kit, a porch swing, a spraying from PSE, a round of golf for four, cart included, at the Glenwood Country Club, and a $150 gift certificate from Gilbert’s Hardware.

The Lions Club also had refreshments available for those who got the munchies, offering hot dogs, hamburgers and chips, along with pickles and drinks.

The auction resumes at 6 p.m. Saturday and will go till everything’s sold.
