Hope man charged in Little River County

ASHDOWN – Rito Alvarado-Gomez, 44, of Hope has been charged in Little River County Circuit Court with Possession of a Controlled Substance; Cocaine, More than 2 grams, but Less than 10 grams.

October 20th, Ashdown Police Captain Zane Butler conducted a probable cause traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Alvarado-Gomez for allegedly traveling 61 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. He noted numerous air freshners hanging from the roof of the vehicle as he approached it.

Captain Butler said when he made contact with Alvarado-Gomez, he told him he had a suspended driver’s license, and the passenger had no license.

After being given consent to search, the officer opened the center console and allegedly observed a small zip top bag that contained a substance a field test showed had a positive presumption for cocaine. The substance showed a weight of 3.9 grams.
