PRESCOTT – Southern Pines Health and Rehab hosted Tuesday’s Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce’s community coffee.

The purpose was to show improvements being made at the center for its clients and the community. Michelle Thornton, the director of business development, said the parent company, Ascend, is doing more upgrades and making a wing for those with dementional behavior issues. Entering the facility, it is the wing off to the right. This wing contains rooms with two beds, closets for each resident, a private bathroom for them to share and each will have a 24-inch television so they can watch what they want without bothering their roommate. The televisions will have headphones to keep the noise down. Private rooms on the wing will also be available.

“We’re sprucing everything up to make people more comfortable with it,” she said, adding Ascend took over in September and changed the name of the facility from Prescott Manor to Southern Pines.

Dana Knighton, marketing director, thanked everyone for coming and said the upgrades are to provide residents with a safe place to live.

Snacks were provided by the facility’s dietary director.

Knighton added there will be a community room for residents to gather. This room will have a big-screen TV and a fireplace. There will also be an outdoor patio, which is being constructed. When the work is done, she said, there will be a grand opening for the public.

The facility also has space for COVID-19 patients.

Other services offered include physical therapy, occupational therapy, IV therapy, dialysis care and transportation, medication management, hospice and palliative care, respite, a beauty/barber shop, therapeutic and religious activities, laundry and housekeeping and cable TV.
